• The price of original cartridges is completely at the manufacturer's discretion. A real savvy shopper will check out cartridge costs before buying the printer. Originals can be expensive, which is why generic manufacturers have begun to produce 'compatibles'. These are much more economical, and are usually more than sufficient, for many home printing, and small business jobs. More often than not, they will also have more ink in them, so it will be longer before you have to think about re-ordering!
