Compatible Cartridges

Compatible Cartridges - Who? Which? And Why?

Most people continue to use original cartridges, made by the original printer manufacturer, for several reasons. First consideration is often given to the trustworthiness of a brand name. This is perfectly understandable; after all, we all tend to edge toward the tried and trusted brands for everything else! That is, until we feel comfortable that a lesser known, and more economical brand can actually supply us with a similarly effective product. Lack of information can often be why people don’t make the change to compatible cartridges. After all, the old saying is, "stick with what you know"!

Compatibles and Warranties

Some consumers are worried, if they use a compatible, the manufacturers warranty will become void. This is not actually the case, unless they can categorically prove the cartridge is directly responsible for the damage. Depending on whether you have a laser or inkjet printer, problems can arise, even with original cartridges. The bottom line is this; the manufacturer can not dictate which make of manufacturer you use. Therefore, the warranty must be adhered to; it is probably illegal for them not to. So if anyone implies that by using a third party or after market manufacturer will throw your warranty out the window, they are wrong!

What's the Worry?

When it's comes to original cartridges, none of these worries apply, whether founded or not. Reliability, with regards to quality and warranty can be worth the extra money to many. Even when compared to compatibles the costs can be relatively high for such peace of mind. Compatible cartridges can often work out fifty percent cheaper than originals, so the savings can be huge. No matter whether your printer is laser or inkjet, a copier or a fax, taking your time to find a good supplier is usually the key to a successful purchase. Choose a supplier that is willing to give a guarantee, minimising any risk factors.

Why the Difference?

When it comes to big brands, just like anything else, you will pay more for the privilege of using a product with their good name on it! You just have to weigh up the pros and cons. Just because you buy a pair of less expensive jeans, as opposed to Armani, it doesn't necessarily mean they are destined to fall apart at the seems. It is possible to buy a well designed pair of sufficient quality for your everyday needs. Ultimately, it is your choice. If you want Armani, that's your choice!

The Legalities

A whole new industry has evolved, with regards to compatible or remanufactured cartridges. Despite protests from the brand manufacturers, because of the loss of one of their revenue streams. Often, compatible laser cartridges need to be refilled, although new compatible cartridges can be purchased. With an inkjet, either type can usually be used. Although due to the filling of small inkjet cartridges being fiddly, and messy, people prefer new cartridges. Remanufactured cartridges are used cartridges that are refilled by a supplier, or manufacturer, but beware they are not all of the same quality, some unscrupulous ones 'drill and fill' and the results are awful! Compatible cartridges are, without a doubt, much less expensive. Do your homework and you could save a packet!
